Wise, Remitly, Revolut and bank wires can each suit different international transfers. The useful comparison is how much the recipient receives for the same total amount you pay. No provider is always cheapest across every country, amount, funding method and account plan.

For US senders, compare US pricing and availability. A UK fee page or a first-transfer promotion is not evidence of the ongoing cost for a US customer.

Which transfer option should you compare first?

Wise: a useful starting quote for bank-account delivery and transparent exchange-rate comparisons. Its USD-to-INR quotes describes a mid-market rate plus disclosed transfer costs. Funding method, verification and the rate-lock deadline affect the final result.
Remitly: worth checking for personal remittances where its destination and payout options suit the recipient. Compare the final payout at standard rates as well as any introductory offer. Business payments require a suitable business service; see the separate comparison below.
Revolut: worth checking if you already have an eligible US account or need its broader account features. Read the US transfer terms and pricing, including your plan's exchange allowances, transfer fees and any charges associated with exchange timing. Include subscription costs when relevant.
Bank wire: worth quoting for a large documented bank-to-bank transfer, an invoice requiring a particular reference, or a recipient who needs a specific currency. Ask the bank about the exchange-rate spread, outgoing wire fee, intermediary charges and receiving-bank deductions.

Wise vs Remitly vs Revolut: compare the same transaction

Collect quotes close together because exchange rates move. Use the same sending country, total USD budget, destination, funding method and delivery method.
Record five figures before confirming:
1. Total USD debited from you, including fees.
2. Exchange rate and whether it is promotional or guaranteed temporarily.
3. Amount and currency the recipient is expected to receive.
4. Estimated arrival and conditions that may delay it.
5. Possible third-party charges that are not included in the displayed payout.
Effective exchange rate = recipient's net amount ÷ total USD you pay.
Hypothetical example: Quote A debits $1,000 and delivers ₹84,500. Quote B debits $1,010 and delivers ₹84,600. A gives 84.50 INR per dollar paid; B gives about 83.76. B's larger payout alone does not make it better value. These figures demonstrate the calculation, not current market rates.

Remitly vs Revolut for business payments

Compare the business accounts and business pricing, rather than using a personal remittance quote for a supplier invoice.
Remitly Business in the US supports international business payments, including eligible supplier or partner business accounts. Check supported countries, currencies, business verification, payment methods, limits and the actual invoice purpose. Personal and business accounts have distinct terms.
Revolut Business US plans combine account features with plan-dependent transfer and exchange allowances. Include monthly subscription cost, any excess-usage fees and the currencies and routes your business needs. A no-fee transfer allowance does not necessarily eliminate every conversion or third-party cost.
Wise also has a separate business offering. Compare business eligibility, beneficiary support, payment references, accounting needs and approvals—not only the headline exchange rate. For a one-off invoice, an ongoing subscription may outweigh an individual transfer saving.

Which is fastest?

Use the delivery estimate for your own quote. Bank funding, card funding and payout methods can have different speeds. Verification reviews, holidays, cut-off times and incorrect beneficiary details can delay any service.
For tuition, rent or a closing deadline, confirm how the recipient will identify the payment and allow time for compliance checks. Do not rely on an advertising claim of “instant” delivery for every transaction.

Hidden costs to check

A zero transfer fee can coexist with an exchange-rate markup. A favorable rate may have an introductory cap. A card issuer may charge separately or classify the payment as a cash advance. A subscription can erase the saving from one transfer.
2026 funding-method tax check: the IRS says a 1% US remittance tax applies from January 1, 2026 to certain transfers funded with cash, money orders, cashier's checks or similar physical instruments. Qualifying account-funded transfers and US-issued debit/credit-card funding are excluded under the statutory rules. This is not a blanket tax on all immigrants or all international wires. Read the IRS explanation and check the provider's displayed tax treatment.

Before you send

Verify changed bank instructions independently, use the official service, and keep the quote and receipt. Large transfers can require source-of-funds documents. Never divide transfers to evade reporting or verification. See our large US-to-INR transfer guide.

Which is cheapest for sending money abroad?

The best-priced eligible live quote for your specific transaction—not a permanent brand ranking. Compare both first-time and repeat-transfer costs.

Can I use personal transfer pricing for business payments?

Do not assume so. Check the provider's business terms, supported purpose and business verification requirements before paying an invoice.
